CIA File: Temporal Mauraders
Current Threats
Entry: The Sontarans
Planet of Origin: Formerly Anaris (unconfirmed), renamed Sontar
Description: Squat, powerful humanoids with domelike heads. As a clone race, Sontarans are physically identical within their caste divisions. Never seen without their flexible, heavy armor.
Special Abilities/Skills: Hailing from a high-gravity world, the Sontarans are short. squat, and very tough. Each Sontaran possesses the strength of 2-3 grown men. Sontaran warriors wear a flexible armor that renders them impervious to most weaponry. All Sontarans are highly-skilled at combat arts, much of which seems to be programmed into their genetic structure.
Weaponry: Disruptor Wands standard. Heavy disruptor rifles when neccessary.
Weaknesses: Members of their space-corps are partial cyborgs, being sustained by the energy of their starships. This adds a point of vulverability to the back of their necks, called the probic vent. A blow there can render them unconcious or prove fatal. All Sontarans are vulnerable to the corrosive, chloronic acid. Also, due to their nature as a clone-race, with very few caste variations, their inventiveness is limited, and the Sontarans have ot made any real technological leaps for the last several thousand years. Any advancement now comes via their pilfering of alien technologies. Lastly, the Sontarans have a highy-developed, if aggressive, code of honor, something which a wily foe can exploit.

Summary: A dangerous, war-like clone race, the Sontarans live for combat and warfare, even moreso then their desire to conquer.
The Sontarans have been at war with the shape-changing Rutans for thousands of years, and are their arch foes. This war shows little signs of abatement, as the advantage has swung like a pendulum between the two races throughout the conflict.
One of the great strengths of the Sontaran race, are their highly-developed cloning procedures. Larger Sontaran star-craft carry a gene-bank, from which millions of Sontaran troops can be grown in a matter of hours. Thus, the Sontarans can invade a world with a handful of ships, and within hours, they can overrun opposing troops and cities with sheer numbers.
The dangerous nature of the Sontaran race cannot be understated. They possess limited time-travel capabilities, and are always looking to refine and improve upon it. This desire actually led to a small Sontaran invasion of the Gallifreyan Capitol city a number of years ago; a clever ploy whereby they used the energy-travelling, telepathic, Vardan race as pawns. Evidently the Vardans had approached the Doctor in order to make a deal to gain control of Gallifrey. Having realized that the Vardans' ability to travel along wavelengths could endanger the MATRIX, the Doctor seemingl agreed to the deal...however the Doctor had deduced the Vardans were merly working as an advance unit for someone else. So the Doctor made his way to Gallifrey, and managed to become President of the Time Lord High-Counsil... all an effort to find out who the Vardans were working for, and to defeat them. The threat of the Vardans was ended when the Doctor gained their trust by de-activating the Transduction Barrier surrounding Gallifrey, and thereby gained an opening to time-loop the Vardan homeworld. That done, the true power behind the invasion was revealed when the Sontarans invaded the Gallifreyan capitol. Fortunately, they too had become but pawns themselves, and the Doctor managed to delay the Strike-Force long enough to consult the MATRIX, and build the ultimate weapon, the De-Mat gun, with which he eliminated the Sontaran threat.
Years later, the Sontarans would try, and again fail, to procure the secrets of true Time-Travel via the capture of the scientist Dastari and use the Kartz/Reimer time travel module, an attempt thwarted by the Doctor's second and sixth incarnations... but the Sontarans are not easily dissuaded, and they remain a threat for the forseeable future.
