And now, the Eighth Doctor:

PERSONALITY: Soft spoken, eloquent, and charming, and overflowing with a zest for life, the 8th Doctor is a bit different from all of his predecessors, though he shares the humorous nature of the 4th Doctor, and the heroic nature of the 3rd. The 8th Doctor is perhaps the most approachable to date; possessing a knack for understanding what really drives people to do what they do and to be whom they are, and a deep, almost clarvoyant knowledge of the possible destinies of those he comes to care for. The 8th Doctor is possible the most emotional incarnation, and this extends to his remarable empathy. Couple that with his formidable charm, enchanting smile, the ability to improvise quickly and brilliantly, and his vast knowledge, and you have yourself a real force to be reckoned with, fighting for what's right and what's true. Without a doubt, he IS the Doctor!

QUOTE: "I love humans...always seeing patterns in things that aren't there."

STORIES: One so far. Enemy Within.

MILESTONES: First new Doctor WHO broadcast since Survival in 1989. Reveals that the Doctor's mother was human. Also features the Doctor's first onscreen kiss, and perhaps the final destruction of the Master.

My Thoughts: "He's Adorable!". Well on that score, I must agree with my wife. Paul McGann cut a dashing, handsome figure as the 8th Doctor. Though he possessed discernable traits reminiscent of Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee, his Doctor was somewhat unique. He was very open...very caring and very approachable. Showing his human side more so than any other Doctor. He displayed a distinct gift for seeing the threads of time surrounding people and events, and of seeing into a person's Heart and Soul (A trait some found disconcerting, but one must remember that Time Lords are mildly telepathic, and in this regeneration, the Doctor's telepathic skills have evidently become second nature, and very acute.), abilities that really distinguished him from his predecessors.

It is unfortunate that FOX, in its foolish shortsightedness, did not opt to pick up Doctor WHO as a series. Who knows what a full season with Paul McGann at the helm would have done for the Doctor WHO mythos. How they could reject the option to produce a show with a built-in fan base is beyond me, as they have taken much bigger risks in the past. It is my firm opinion (an opinion shared by many others) that the FOX Network never really had any faith in the product, nor any real intention to use the film as a springboard for a new series of Doctor WHO. There is evidence to support this opinion. FOX promos for the film were a rare site in the states...so how can anyone see a film if they don't know its coming on and when? Also, FOX's decision to never replay the telefilm before its option to do so ran out last year adds yet more weight to the charge that they didin't really wish to put any work into a possible show. Perhaps if the telefilm had been an absolute ratings juggernaut the network might have changed its attitude, but alas it was not to be.

Their loss..and ours as well. Fortunately, the loss is being mitigated by Big Finish Productions, who pulled off a major coup when they managed to snag Paul McGann for a series of their ongoing Doctor WHO audio productions.

Best Companion(s): Well, considering that the 8th Doctor had only a single adventure, naturally I will be speaking of Grace Holloway. Grace was a brilliant Cardiac Surgeon from the late 20th century. She first came into contact with the Doctor on the operating table, trying to correct a percived heart malfunction that was normal to his Gallifreyan physique. Unaware of just how different his anatomy was, she accidentally damaged his Cardiovascular system with a miniature camera-probe. This damage, in combination with the anathstetics he had been given, put an abrupt end to his 7th life. Later after his regeneration, she met again, and found out his physique was indeed alien. Grace then proceeded to aid, then doubt, and then aid the Doctor once again. She eventually helped him defeat the Master, and remained behind in her era. Grace shared several traits with past companions, such as charm, compassion, and beauty. Like many scientists however, she suffered from skepticism. Another distinct trait, was her romantic attraction towards the Doctor, who partially reciprocated the affection (A trait seemingly unique to this incarnation of the Doctor.). When they parted, the Doctor had successfully resolved many of the doubts that Grace possessed about herself and her future. Nonetheless, the Doctor was saddened that Grace turned down his offer to travel with him. Without a doubt, the Doctor won't remain alone for long, as companions always seem to find their way into his life.
