The third Doctor:

PERSONALITY: Flamboyant, graceful, and clever, the third Doctor was athletic and physical. A man of action and an expert in the martial art of Venusian Akido. This Doctor was earthbound for mutch of his tenure, due to his exile imposed by the Time-Lords. To compensate, this Doctor used many gadgets in his battles against his foes, including his most deadly foe, the Master. One of his most prominent personality traits was his deep-seated dislike of autority figures. Somewhat ironic that he should be under the "employ" of one, Brigadier Lethbridge-Strewart.

QUOTE: "Brigadier, a straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it is by no means the most interesting."

STORIES: 24, from Spearhead from space, through Planet of the Spiders.

MILESTONES: Spearhead from Space:The introduction of the Autons, and the Nestenes. The Sulurians: The reptillian Sulurian race is introduced here. Terror of the Autons: The Master's first appearance! The Sea Devils: Introduces the aquatic cousins of the Sulurians. The Three Doctors: The Brigadier finally sees the TARDIS interior, the Doctor's 3 incarnations are brought together to combat Omega. Also Marks the 10th anniversary of the show. The Time Warrior: The Sontarans debut here. Planet of the Spiders: The Doctor is fatally damaged by radiation, and is forced to regenerate.

My Thoughts: I have a particular fondness for Jon Pertwee's incarnation. His energy and flair entertain me to this day when I view his on-screen adventures. Some of the program's best moments are during his years as the 3rd Doctor. He is also the only Doctor Who actor I have thus far met. He was a joy to see during his stop with the "Doctor Who USA Tour" back in 1987. The tour made it's second stop here in Huntington WV that spring, this time with Pertwee in tow. He was a delight during his intro and his Q & A, and kindly posed for photographs with My friend and Myself afterwards. I felt the loss keenly when he passed on in May of 1996. He was a wonderful person, and he will not be forgotten.

Best Companion(s): The third Doctor's most memorable companion was easily Jo Grant. She had been trained as an espionage agent, and was pushed into UNIT by her Uncle, who worked with the UN. The Brig in turn passed her on to the Doctor as his new assistant. Though they didn't exactly hit it off at once, the Doctor eventually grew very fond of Jo, regarding her almost as a Daughter , and was very sad when she eventually departed. Jo was scatterbrained, accident prone, and strongly independent. She also had complete faith in the Doctor, and the pair worked wonderfully together. Jo eventually left the Doctor when she decided to Marry Professor Clifford Jones at the conclusion of "The Green Death".
