Entry: The Autons

Planet of Origin: Unknown
Description: Nestenes are a disembodied, collective sentience, which, when fully manifested, eventually forms a creature resembling an earthen octopus, and can reach an enourmous size if not killed early in its development. The Auton drones often resemble a planet's dominant species.
Special Abilities/Skills: The Nestenes possess Telepathy and a type of Telekenesis which offers them almost complete control of any plastic material. Auton drones are armed with disruptor weapons concealed within their bodies. Almost as effective, is the fear the drones can induce in a population, with their experessionless faces and lifeless gaze. A force of Auton drones can be a terrible sight to behold.
Weaponry: The main weapon is Telepathy, whitch which the Nestene conciousness can use to take over nearby life-forms, and thus pave the way for an invasion. Auton drones are armed with disruptor weapons concealed within their bodies.
Weaknesses: The lack of a physical form and the need to subjugate at least one native life-form is one chink in the Nestene/Auton armor... however, they seem to be able to work their way around that. Autons are strong and can be difficult to destroy, as most projectiles pass harmlessly through their plastic bodies. Flames, fragmentation weapons, and molecular-disruptors are the most effectve devices to combat them. However, the true enemy is the animating Nestene conciousness. If the Nestene is found and destroyed, the Autons are rendered lifeless.
Summary: Over a billion years ago, the Nestene race abandoned their physical forms to merge into a single, collective mind, composed of pure thought-energy. Their original form was octopoid in nature; tentacled, with a single, great eye.

Though composed of energy, the Nestenes still feel the need to conquer in order to spawn more of their race, and thus expand the power of their collective conciousness, and have attempted the takeover of the planet Earth on several occasions. The Autons themselves are actually animated plastic androids used by the Nestenes to set up their breeding vats. In order to produce the needed Autons, the Nestenes first came to earth via a small swarm of hollow meteors. Soon, a virtual army of Auton drones is produced at the local plastics factory by a Nestene-Agent named Channing. However, the Nestenes didn't count on the interference of U.N.I.T, and the Doctor, who devised a way to repel the Nestene conciousness from the Earth itself. This move deactivated the Auton drones in an instant, and also Channing, who was himself a more sophisticated Auton.

However, the Nestenes weren't done, and an opening was provided for them by the renegade Time-Lord, the Master, who stole one of the uncollected and dormant Nestene energy-globes from a museum. He manages to activate the globe, thereby awakening the dormant Nestene conciousness. He then uses his own hypnotic abilities to take over the Farrel-Family plastics firm. He plots with the Nestenes to conquer the earth, using products produced by the Farrel Factory as a first-strike. However, the Doctor discovers the plot, and manages to convince the Master that the Nestenes will kill him once his usefulness has ended. That done, both Time-Lords work together and again the Nestenes are repelled from the Earth.

It must be noted that the Nestenes have merely been repelled, and still yearn to conquer Earth. Its only a matter of time before they try again, and should they succeed, all of reality could be imperiled. Any future Nestene invasion plans must be thwarted.
